Sie werden bereits als die neuen Stars der Alternative-Elektro-Szene gehandelt und das Ende des Monats erscheinende Album gilt als eine der am sehnsüchtigsten erwarteten Veröffentlichungen des Jahres. Nun ist es jedoch durchaus bekannt, dass Bands, um die bereits im Vorfeld ein derartiger Hype veranstaltet wird, meist nicht halten können, was sie versprechen.
Eher skeptisch betrachtet drehte also “Travelling” seine ersten Runden im CD-Player, um dann zur berühmten Ausnahme der Regel und zu werden und sich einen Platz ganz vorn im Plattenregal zu sichern. Zurückgelehnt, dunkel, sehr fein produziert und arrangiert lässt die Single von Seabound Großes erahnen. Melodiöse, nahezu balladeske Lines werden in einen futuristischen, streckenweise Kraftwerk und Gary Numan nicht unähnlichen Klangteppich eingebettet, der wohl temperiert zwischen sanft und hart zu schwanken versteht.
Eine nicht unbedeutende Rolle bei der Produktion des neuen Pferdes im Stall von Dependent Records spielte übrigens Eskil Simonsson von Covenant, der sich ebenso für die “Travelling Extended Version” verantwortlich zeigt.
Fazit: Fulminantes Debüt - Seabound haben Großes vor.

Das deutsche Duo SEABOUND legt mit dieser Maxi einen exzellenten Einstand hin. Das schon mal vorweg! Das Titelstück könnte als eine komplexe Version von COVENANT durchgehen. Kein Wunder, Eskil von COVENANT saß im Studio an den Reglern. "Travelling" ist tanzbarer, melodischer Abgeh-Electro mit futuristischem Einschlag und sehr gutem unverzerrtem Gesang. Ein 100%iger Tanzflächenfüller! Das zweite Stück "Avalost" kommt dagegen wesentlich ruhiger daher. Sehr atmosphärisch und komplex baut sich der Song auf um in einem unwiderstehlichen Refrain zu münden. Selbiger erinnert ein wenig an WOLFSHEIM. Technoider und härter schlägt Song Nr.3 "Progress Nil" einen anderen Weg ein. Nicht zuletzt durch die geflüsterten und verzerrten Vocals kommt der Song kühler und bedrohlicher daher. Abschliessend gibt es noch einen sehr gelungenen Remix des Titelstücks. Fazit: Perfekt produzierter Electro, abwechslungsreich, und mit viel Liebe zum Detail programmiert. Wenn das bald anstehende Debut-Album nur annähernd so clever und abgebrüht klingt, dann werden SEABOUND das nächste grosse Ding! [AM][4/2001]

When the prolific Dependent label adds a new artist to its selected roster we can anticipate something strong enough and when Covenant's Eskil Simonsson is supervising the whole, well, it's almost certain to be huge; and it is. Seabound might be the first band which the "future pop" sticker could really describe their music, even if they're beyond any terms and, fortunately, those who are scared of the "pop" word might enjoy them pretty well.
Complex layers of thick electronics and superbly crafted synths for an overall outstanding musical structure, without forgetting the infectious rhythmic beat; even the smallest detail is bludgeoning. Travelling is a masterpiece, with a duality between processed vocals rapidly replaced by warm and clear ones for a colossal chorus. The extended push the dance appeal further, focussing on its rhythmic structure. Although the single is amazing, the true gem is hidden behind Avalost, providing a lush focal point, a truly grand song, hushed and emotive, with Spinath's calmly intoning some excellent lyrics. Progress Nil is darker Seabound, close to Travelling and not without remembering us some Haujobb's Planet-era material.
The duo of Frank Spinath and Martin Vorbrodt are not only set to be electro next big thing, but also the genre next best thing. This is certainly one of the best surprises this slow first half of 2001 brought us and it would be surprising if that anyone could really raise the bar higher.

Seabound are the lucky first newcomer band to be taken under the Dependent wing
next to remarkable label mates like Covenant, VNV Nation or yet Suicide
Commando. You will of course understand that it is with eager anticipation
that I was waiting for this debut maxi, especially since I had heard it
had been produced by Eskil Simonsson from Covenant himself. Everyone thought
Seabound would be a synth pop band and everybody was wrong! Seabound have
much more to offer complex and modern electronic arrangements, strong vocal
lines, carrying melodic sequences and efficient beat patterns. The title-song
"Traveling" reminds me of the most danceable tracks by Clock Dva with elements
of synth pop catchiness here and forceful modern elektro there. Its extended
remix by Covenant is more distorted and slightly more danceable. The second
track "Avalost" is much calmer and darker, setting the perfect melancholic
mood for a wonderful synth pop song with very elegant emotional vocals
with a little 80's touch in the background. "Progress Nil" is another piece
of intricate electronics with fresh tonalities and smothered vocals. All
in all, we are facing a very promising debut maxi-cd from Seabound, a multi-faceted
band we will have to follow closely for the release of their forthcoming
